I can see a far more sinister side than that. What if this whole, "working with scanlators" thing is a ploy to draw out scanlators and shut them down. It's what I'd do to my a particularly elusive enemy. Unfortunately of course, word would spread so it'd only work once for them. I suppose that means that it's legit.

Yaoi huh? Not my cup of tea, but it's a step in the right direction.

Something has to be done somewhere and with DMP taking the first step, I'm sure the other publishers would want to follow suit in the future. I don't really mind Yaoi...lol but yeah, it's still a step in the right direction even if it's BL first.

I read this on ANN before this pop up. But anyway this look promising because this is legal scanlation and DMP can help bring obscure manga to USA. But for now BL and Yaoi is the only thing they're bringing. I hope they look into other genre like Shonen, Shojo, Sport, and other obscure manga. If a manga is obscure in Japan and you scanlate it in USA and it get a lot of view and favorable in USA. A obscure manga might not do well in Japan, but it might do well in USA.

Same here, I'm not against those types of manga, but I don't read them :P

Even if this affected manga I actually care about, I'd probably stick to piracy for convenience's sake. Still, official scanlations seem like a good idea.

official scanlations are only good if they have popular series loke naruto, bleach etc
not just yaoi manga

Good idea

But the start is bad, maybe if it started off as Yuri or Shoujo it would fare a lot better.

I don't get the logic behind this thinking. It's not like fujoshi aren't hungry for new releases and will pay for official scanlations when available.

I have mix feelings about this. My question right now is if I can still enjoy reading BL when that time comes......

I think it's a good step. Instead of being stupid and trying to strip the Internet (like, really?) of all licensed manga, they're providing competition against manga-hosting sites.

The only things I'm wondering about are how the quality of the scanlations will be maintained, how they'll earn decent revenue (though if the blog post was right, they'd never be losing money since it's speculative work), and why we readers would choose DMP's "breakthrough" solution as opposed to say MangaFox or OneManga. Perhaps they'll have stronger QC than some random scanlation group out there, but is that all?

Sounds like its going to be a slow process.
Maybe (Hopefully) they will talk about other titles later...

But, yeah, would've been happier if there were "normal" tittles instead.

Agreed. I guess I need some normal manga at most times.

Interesting news about MangaHelpers there. Also, MangaFox has recieved quite a bit of backlash for going PG-13, from what I hear. MangaHut recently had that big to-do, and so there's barely anything up, and a lot of people abandoned the site. OneManga is properly confusing me and probably everyone else by starting up 1000Manga.

BEST. SITE. EVER.

According to ANN, Sasahara Hikaru, the CEO of Digital Manga Publishing (DMP) confirmed the anonymous report on Yaoi Online that DMP is preparing a "legal scanlation" site.

Just a few corrections to your post here. First would be that is was not an 'anonymous report', it was an anonymous tip that led me to confirm the details with the President of DMP, which was all reported right in my post. ANN didn't confirm the story, my site did. Also, the site is called The Yaoi Review, not Yaoi Online. It would be great if you could update your posting to something a little more accurate. Thanks :-)

oops. sorry for misspelling your site. not sure ANN really didn't confirm the story by themselves.

Also, LOL at people who don't know DMP publishes a bunch of yaoi manga.

Haha, I don't even read English manga and even I caught onto this.

It makes sense too--BL titles are often 1 volume long. Releases and quality control for these types of short titles would be easy to test the waters before they attempt longer series and have to worry about consistency. Not to mention there's a gazillion BL scan groups out there to tap into.

All this is true but this is a greater risk than going for Yuri, Shounen, or Shoujo, I can't see this being successful. Remember anime is still more male orientated from a market standpoint.

Tiny nitpick: DMP isn't an anime distributor. It's a manga publisher. Also, I don't see any evidence that yuri makes more money in the States than yaoi/BL does.

mm. interesting. so the MangaHelpers idea is getting some attention -> http://mangahelpers.com/news/details/377

im a yaoi fan, so nothing there, but i am surprised to see that this genre would be the first to be used in this new thing.
anyways. good lusck to them, cuz they should have considered internet and scanlators a long time ago ^^

hoorah for BL! it's like a revolution!

EDIT: also, the population of Fujoshi is actually surprisingly high, though probably still underground. if sales of lolita and cosplays weren't an indication of this, what is?
--support for BL is probably really vast by now.

JOY! I can't wait. :D I hope it's subscription based and not pay per chapter/title, but either is ok. <3 I wonder just which scanslation groups they've asked for help?

The opening was good. Ending genre's blew the thrill away. Would've preferred Lolis and DFC over those.

EDIT: But it's still a good way if the genre spreads better.
